ECCI is Going Green

No one is more concerned about global warming, clean air, and green environments, than members of college and university communities. Colleges and universities, their faculty, students, and administrators, are demanding responsible energy strategies and practices on their campuses and beyond. As the founder and chairman of ECCI, a company that has served the college and university community for over 20 years, this is an invitation for new thinking and a clear call to action.

ECCI was founded 20 years ago at the cusp of deregulation of the telecommunications industry to bulk buy long distance service for colleges, universities, and schools, creating revenue for schools, savings in long distance costs, and new applications in voice technology on campus. The conditions of the energy industry today are similar to those of the telecommunications industry 20 years ago when we founded ECCI: tight regulation, high costs of entry, little competition, minimal innovation and customer-be-damned. Through ECCI, the congruence of deregulation, technology, and entrepreneurship transformed telecommunications for colleges, universities and schools. We believe we are at the precipice of that congruence of forces in the energy industry today.

ECCI has developed an integration of technologies for coal fired power plants on campus that delivers clean energy. We are in the process of identifying our first campus to apply the new technology to retrofit an old coal fired power plant, with the following three goals:

  • Process the rich supply of American coal in a manner that avoids emissions of carbon;

  • Demonstrate the effectiveness of truly clean coal technology; and

  • Efficiently distribute energy to a consortium of colleges and universities, initially in West Virginia, then Texas.

The majority of America’s energy comes from coal. ECCI is pioneering several breakthrough technologies applicable for smaller scale coal fired power plants on campuses that will help access the energy we need and not pollute the air. A campus with more energy and less pollution is achievable.

Please call us for more information or to learn how your campus can participate.
